A Trip to the Perry Gifford Farm
by Janette Burnham Lozon
Perry died May 1, 1847, and was buried at the Gifford farm in South Cayuga. His widow moved to
Woodhouse Township, Norfolk County with her children, and probably was married again. Not much seems to be known about Mary Elizabeth. Family lore says that she was the young daughter of a near neighbour and that she had come to the Gifford home to nurse the sick first wife of Perry Gifford. On Perry Jr.'s death registration her name is Mary Elizabeth Clifford McDowell. There is a Clifford family who lived at one time on the Clement tract in Canborough Township.
